Randhir Jaiswal, a Career Diplomat takes up New Post as Consul General of India to New York

Randhir Kumar Jaiswal is one of the most prominent career diplomats taking up his new and most challenging post as the Ambassador Consul General of India in New York accredited to Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont as of July 19, 2020. Key are the border tri-state power- New Jersey and Connecticut.

Ambassador Jaiswal is a familiar face amongst the diplomatic community and the vast Indian American diaspora in the Tri State area.

He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1998 and has over two decades of diplomatic career which took him to serve in He has been posted in Portugal, Cuba, South Africa and as a Counselor at the Permanent Mission of India in New York.

Ambassador Jaswal’s most recent posting was in New Delhi, where he served as Joint Secretary cum Social Secretary to the President of India, Ramnath Kovind in New Delhi. In this post as social secretary, he led the foreign affairs office of the Rashtrapati Bhavan and was an adviser to President Kovind on India’s foreign policy.

Prior to that, Ambassador Jaiswal served as Consul General of India in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He has also served at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi as Deputy Secretary looking after India’s relations with the United States of America, and then as Joint Secretary managing India’s relations with West European countries, in between his overseas assignments.


The Ambassador;s new position as Consul General of India at the moment is nourishing and strengthening the strong bonds between India and the US, strategic, sustainable development and public policy issues.


He would like to further explore the new ideas and areas of cooperation and relationship in diverse fields of economy, trade, technology, and culture.


The Indian Diaspora remains the primary focused concern and top priority of the Consulate to serve one of the fastest and affluent Immigrant Community in the US. Ambassador Jaiswal set out to strengthen the multi-stake holders relationship between his offices and the Indian American community.


Ambassador Jaiswal is passionate about sports, environment, culture, monuments, old cities and ethnic cuisines.

Ambassador Jaiswal has been part of India’s delegation at various Climate Change Conferences and was the lead negotiator for the G-77 countries at the RIO+20 Conference held in Brazil in 2012.

With a Master’s degree in History from Delhi University, and the capability to fluently speak Hindi, English, Portuguese and Spanish, and several dialects of Bihar, India, he will be perfect to eventually be president of the New York Consular Corps.

Ambassador Jaiswal is married to Dr. Abha Jaiswal, a public health expert, and they have two daughters. The eldest daughter is currently an undergrad in Liberal Arts at Mount Holyoke College and the younger daughter is in 10th grade.
